Road Trip Europe
August 17, 2008
Our roadtrip starts on a big ferry from Gothenburg, Sweden to Kiel, Germany.
First, a dinner for two, while the Gothenburg archipelago passes by outside.
Outside, the sun is setting
When we wake up, we'll be in Germany...and at the start of our three week road trip.
no land in sight
bed time in our suite for two
Morning puzzle: Where did we park that car...?
Our first stop is somewhere along Rhen
Mosel river valley
Don't we all love these little hamlets and villages?
every one is scenic
Max bridge load: Trucks 50 tons, military tanks 40 tons.
Imagine riding your bike along this revier...then taking the ferry back. Definitely on my todo list now.
Now that is a castle.
vinyards everywhere
bigger bridge, bigger tanks allowed
another coffee stop
decorated
tall building
gotta check those signs before we cross...yep, we're less than 50 tons.
-And we're not in a tank.
evening stop somewhere along the "Mosella"
Getting that tripod...
....to capture one of those moments.
After coffe in Luxemburg, we arrive to Dijon, France.
sunflower fields south of Dijon
Way past their bloom, they're plowed down for next year.
so scenic, so convertible
Next stop Beune lies in the heart of the Cote d'Or region
Winetasting in an nearby village. Great, local wine.
-Left or right?
overlooking part of Cote d'Or
The creek crossing before entering Champellement.
Some wine was aging in the cellar...
...of this old castle, in which we are about to celebrate the union...
...of Amaya and Julien!
Photos from their wedding
The view from the hill was stunning, and a great time was had by all.
gorgeous sunflower fields
After visiting Terry and his dolphins in Switzerland, we set course for Rothenburg.
The modern car is the only thing different from the 15th century
Me, myself and I in the town gardens
window seat
flat tiles
medieval
lots of tiled roofs
corner house
And so, we jump back on Autobahn...
...and head back.
