Rock carvings in Tanum
July 19, 2005
We dedicated one day to rock carvings in Tanum, an hour north of Uddevalla.

We're off to the rock carvings.
The rock carvings found here are "only" about 1000 years old.

Four strings attached to four handles which are passed back and forth, to create a braided rope.

The weather was a bit gloomy, but summer rains are at least not cold.
(partially) covered wildlife trap - poles create slippery sides so the catch can't climb back out

The carvings are painted in red, to make them more visible.
Most are viking ships telling about trips, trade, and battle.

We depart Tanum, and drive back home via Fjällbacka, a small fishing village, a real jewel on the coast.

a very popular destination for sailors (and we will also return here in a week, this time by boat)
