Biking Mt Tamalpais
September 6, 2004

It's the third and last day of this long, hot weekend - Labor Day.

Christof & I havedecided to ride up Mt Tam, starting from Rockrodge.

We started out by taking BART to the city - the remaining 25 miles is just biking.

[view from Golden Gate]

the tour-of-the-bay ferries make their passes under the Golden Gate bridge

"BIKE LANE"?? To me, this looks really, really dangerous.
Just imagine a car door swung open in front of you...

This, on the other hand, is a really unusual sight in the Bay Area - a private, paved road - with no cars!
Today, however, we will see a lot more of that...

This little thing sticking out in the back....that's Mt Tam.

Stopping for a photo on our way up scenic Old Pipeline Rd in Mill Valley.

No cars on this one, as the road doesn't go through...but bikes can get through - to the right!

This half mile was hard even on a mountainbike.

-Talk about our lucky day! Today, the whole mountain is closed to cars!

So we end up getting the roads just to ourselves today...

The ride up is just as breathtaking as always...but dead quiet.

We started at sea level, and climbed several little hills on our way here.

The 360° view from up there is breathtaking... [click to view]

Again, Baker Beach is packed with people...
[as seen from the bridge]

That massive thing on the horizon...that's Mt Tam.
