Sony Surgery
November 30, 2003
Tired of getting pictures like this one...
...I set up a temporary workbench...
...and carried out some surgery, aiming for the lens cover mechanism.
LCD flipped down
optics taken out
barenaked
3.2 megapixel CCD under the steel plate
focus & shutter mechanisms out
Popping off the front lens plate reveals the problem:
Dust & dirt in the lens cover mechanism.
partially disassembled for thorough cleaning
This nasty little spring went ballistic once...but not for long :-P
Now clean & smooth. Opens and closes every time.
Wacky groves move the lenses & mechanisms during lens extraction & zooming.
Shutter back in place. Autofocus on its way in.
Back together - and still working...better than ever.
But wait...what's that screw??
Looking back at my photos, I found that this screw was missing. Goody.
Ok, that's better. Done.
