Peter Grubb & Castle Peak
January 26, 2003
After trying out a Colfax breakfast café, Jacques & I started our 6 hour snowshoe hike into the Peter Grubb hut and up Castle Peak.
It's another very pleasant day.
[moss landing]
We decided to avoid the crowded trail and instead hike through the forest up to the Castle Peak ridge.

Time for lunch break?
Yep, it's a nice place for that!
How can something this simple taste so good?
trying out the wood splitter
-Yup, it works.
The Peter Grubb Hut. Sleeps 15.
Next up...
I wouldn't wanna do this without snowshoes.
Just vulcanic gravel and nature's own cement.
The last part up there is really, really steep.
Quite scary on icy snow.
Snickers with a view.

View of the ridge from Castle Peak to Andesite Peak.
Getting down is quite hard on your knees, since you need to tip-toe down to utilize the snowshoe teeth.
Tomorrow...back to my computer at work......
