Sykes Hot Springs
September 28-29, 2002

Starting just off hwy 1 @ Big Sur, we're getting ready for out 10 mile hike into the Sykes hot springs area.

Jacques is a barefoot hiker. www.barefooters.org

Gamba, all packed up and ready to go.
Carrying the essentials, our red & white wine.

...and off we go.

[4 hours later]
-Hmmm....I think the best hot springs are down here...

Perfect timing: setting up camp an hour before sunset.

After over two hours of hot soaking, we're grabbing late night dinner by our little bonfire.

a good cup of hot chocolate

By midnight we cuddled up in our sleeping bags, under the clear, starry sky.

A new day dawns, coffee is ready.

Breakfast, and we're back into our hot spring.

So, who's teaching who to swim?

At 1:45, same time we left our car yesterday, we now leave our camp behind.

a nice balance act

Jacques is barefooting again. I tried it for yesterday's 10 miles...a rather interesting experience.

a quick stop for lunch by one of the creeks along our way back

surrounded by pretty tall redwoods

the first bare foot....on the moon?

the Pacific appears in the west

one last stop to treat our rum raisin chocolate addiction

rugged hills

After another four hour hike, we're back at our car....

....again, just before sunset.
